Cherry Chest

Designed to be placed under a  cherished painting done by the client's mother. The Chinese pagoda and the latticework, themed in the painting, were the inspiration for the elements I used in this piece. In the trapezoidal frame and panel construction, I paid particular attention to the grain patterns and symmetry. Doors are book-matched, outside and inside, with mitered- frames. The top has a most exquisite curly figure and over time the whole piece has darkened beautifully. The latticework echoed in the end panels and the handle were subbed-out for CNC work to a local artisan, R. Meinert.

Material: cherry wood, book-matched curly maple veneer

Dimensions (h x w x d): 24 x 43 x 18

Year Made: 2010
