Unusual  custom requests make for a greater knowledge base….. Lots of problem solving and experimenting went into this piece.

Mixed media includes:  legs- sculpted polystyrene and fiberglass matte over a metal armature;  body- book-matches black walnut, curly beech;  thorax- bird’s-eye maple;  head and eyes- carved bass-wood, dichroic glass cabachons and onyx beads;  antennae- bent and carved walnut veneer layers.    Iridescence is achieved by air-brushing metallic and interference paints
